Age.. Its just numbers.
Even if you're not familiar with world of surfing, you've probably heard of the sports most well known ambassador Kelly Slater. He has dominated the scene for the last couple of decades, winning the world title an incredible 11 times. Even though this year the title has looks like going elsewhere, Kelly still managed to grab headlines around the globe by pulling off a never before seen move in Portugal a couple of months back. Just check this out...
I'm sure you'll agree that's pretty impressive to watch, oh and Kelly is 42 years old, yes thats right 42.
At an age in our society where folks often feel that their best physical years are behind them, Kelly is living testament to the fact that if we put our personal health and wellness at the centre of our existance then our bodies and minds are capable of extraordinary feats of beauty and power.
In a number of interviews Kelly talks about how prioritising his own health has been the main contributor in prolonging his longevity in a sport where his fellow competitors are often 20 years younger than him. In fact, he has said that he still feels his best is yet to come and he hopes to be a better surfer when he is 50 than he is now.
Now, I'm the same age as Kelly and though I may have missed my chance of being a surfing world champion, I can share his principles. That makes me really excited about the future and like a fine wine, I hope to only improve with age. Now thats something to raise a glass to.
